Michigan State basketball should target Tramon Mark in the transfer portal

Tom Izzo has proven to us all so far this offseason that he is taking the transfer portal very seriously. That hasn't always been the case the last few seasons, but thankfully he is this year. Michigan State basketball has been publicly linked to multiple targets already in the portal, but until the Spartans earn a commitment from a transfer they need to continue contacting other transfers as well.

One player who just entered the portal is Arkansas guard Tramon Mark. Going into this offseason, I wouldn't have thought that a player like Mark is someone Izzo would target, but he has already shown us this is a position he is prioritizing in the portal.

Mark is a 6-foot-6 guard from Arkansas who averaged 16.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He also shot an efficient 48 percent from the filed and a solid 36 percent from 3-point range this season.

As I mentioned, Izzo has already shown that this type of player is someone he wants out of the portal. A bigger guard who can rebound the ball well and stretch the floor by being a legit threat from 3-point range. Mark fits this mold perfectly, so if Izzo wants a player with this style then this would be another great option to go after.

Michigan State has been publically linked with two players already who fit this mold. J'Vonne Hadley from Colorado is the first bigger guard MSU was after and they also recently added Keyshawn Hall from George Mason as well. The reason Izzo would be smart to add Mark to the list is because nothing is guaranteed in recruiting. There's a very real chance that Michigan State doesn't get a commitment from either of these players, so it's important for MSU to have other options in place in case that happens.

The possibility of missing on Hadley or Hall is also increasing asHadley received two crystal ball predictions to Iowa State by two recruiting experts this past weekend.

So if this is a position Izzo wants to target in the portal, he would be wise to reach out to Mark. He would be a great option to have in East Lansing and someone that would compete for significant playing time or maybe even a starting spot immediately. I personally hope Izzo makes the call, and there's a good chance we will find out soon if he does.
