As the offseason progresses, the urgency for Tom Izzo to land a transfer from the portal for Michigan State basketball is slowly increasing. The Spartans have been publicly linked with three transfers so far, even going as far as being in the top two for J'Vonne Hadley.

MSU saw a positive development a few days ago in Hadley's recruitment as his second finalist, Iowa State, received a commitment from a different transfer at the same position. This looked like good news for the Spartans as most thought Hadley wouldn't want to transfer somewhere where another player at his same position is already heading. That unfortunately doesn't appear to be the case however.

Earlier on Friday, Hadley picked up two crystal ball predictions on 247Sports to commit to Iowa State. These two predictions came from an Iowa State insider and well known Michigan State insider Justin Thind.

Usually I will always say that a recruitment is never over until it is officially over, but this one feels like a loss for the Spartans. I thought MSU had a good chance because Hadley went to the same high school as Tre Holloman and began his career at Northeastern with Tyson Walker, but Hadley had an even better connection with Iowa State. Hadley has a cousin on the Cyclones team, so that connection likely helped the Cycolnes win this recruitment.

The good news for Michigan State fans is that Izzo is already in on other transfers as well. This includes forward Frankie Fidler who has MSU in his top four. There is even the chance that he has contacted more transfers that just haven't been made public yet. So Izzo is using the portal this offseason, it's just a matter of if he can convince any transfer to come to Michigan State.

It is still early in the offseason, so there is no need to panic yet. This however would have been a recruitment I would have loved to win.
