Michigan State basketball has unfortunately hit a new low this offseason. The Spartans are yet to earn a commitment in the 2025 class and people are beginning to wonder if it’s time to panic after missing on three priority recruits in the span of a few days.

On top of that, all signs point towards MSU missing on five-star Dwayne Aristode as well. So yeah, it’s safe to say it’s not a good time to be a fan of Michigan State basketball right now.

But even with all the struggles with the 2025 class Tom Izzo is still beginning his pursuit of some recruits in the 2026 class. Now while that may upset you considering how poorly the 2025 class is currently going, he and his staff still need to look ahead to the future beyond this year’s class or they’ll fall behind there too.

I haven’t seen that many names that Michigan State has interest in for the 2026 class yet, but one new name popped up this week who has scheduled a visit to MSU next month.

Four-star forward Sam Fleming has shared that he will be visiting Michigan State on Oct. 19. Fleming is a very talented recruit, coming in as the No. 93 player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also is the No. 16 power forward in his class as well as the No. 2 player from Massachusetts.

Fleming’s recruitment is quite interesting so far considering he only has two scholarship offers from West Virginia and Massachusetts. I would expect a lot more than that from a top-100 player.

I wouldn’t be surprised however to see Izzo extend an offer to Fleming during his visit, and I for one who he does. This would be a quick way for Izzo to get out in front of this recruitment before more programs inevitably get involved. So the sooner Izzo gets Michigan State heavily involved the better.

Now while recruiting the 2026 class is still important right now, let’s hope we start seeing some tangible progress in the more important 2025 class.
