Michigan State football earns commitment from transfer EDGE Anthony Jones
Michigan State football is fresh off its Spring Showcase which by all accounts was a massive success. Not only was there a lot of success on the field, but the Spartans also had a big recruiting weekend as well.
Many recruits were on campus for the showcase, and Jonathan Smith and MSU just received a commitment from one of those transfers on campus Sunday night.
Antony Jones is a transfer edge rusher from Indiana. Jones spent his first collegiate season at Oregon where he didn’t see the field very much. This was on purpose as he used this season as a redshirt year to help him get acclimated to the college game.
After his one season at Oregon, Jones entered the portal and headed to the Big Ten where he played this past season at Indiana. Jones only appeared in six games and finished with 12 total tackles. This may concern you a bit because Jones has yet to have a productive season in college, but in my opinion, he has the potential to be very solid.
Jones still has three years of eligibility remaining, so he has plenty of time to develop at Michigan State and become a great player. He also already has the frame to do so at 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds. Now it’s just a matter of putting all of his tools together, something I have complete faith in Smith’s staff to be able to do.
However, the best thing about Jones’ commitment is what he shared with On3 reporter Hayes Fawcett. Jones said, “Trust the process… last stop, Go Green!”
The “last stop” is huge because he’s telling us that he will be finishing his career in East Lansing. I do sometimes get a little nervous when I see a transfer who has already made multiple stops in their career come to Michigan State, but this statement from him calms those nerves.
Smith is once again killing it in the transfer portal, and it hasn’t even been open for a week yet. Hopefully this becomes the norm and we see more commitments in the coming days and weeks.
