Michigan State basketball has been making a lot of solid moves on the recruiting trail recently. They haven’t earned a commitment in the 2025 class quite yet, but Tom Izzo and his staff have been inching closer with many recruits.

With all the good news MSU has been getting recently, they were bound to have something negative happen at some point. And unfortunately that happened on Monday.

In what is some shocking news, four-star guard Braylon Mullins, who is a top 25 player in the 2025 class, did not include Michigan State in his top 10. Indiana, Alabama, Michigan, Tennessee, Purdue, North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, UConn, and Kansas are the 10 teams to make the cut in Mullins’ list.

Usually not making a recruits top list isn’t a big deal, but for Michigan State it is because he was one of their priorities in the 2025 class. Just a week and a half ago Mullins announced that he would be taking an official visit to East Lansing beginning Aug. 29. Knowing that I would have expected Michigan State to make the cut, but that unfortunately isn’t the case.

However, seeing the programs listed in Mullins’ top 10 maybe it’s for the best that Michigan State was excluded this early.

Don’t get me wrong, I obviously wish MSU made the cut, but now they can turn their attention on other recruits and make more progress with them. The Spartans top choice Trey McKenney is still on their board, so this likely means Izzo and his staff can prioritize him even more.

So while this isn’t the best news to see, it also isn’t the worst thing in the world either. Mullins was never a must get recruit in my eyes anyways, so hopefully the staff can pivot to their other recruits and make some more progress with them.
