I am starting to panic.

The hits just keep on coming for Michigan State basketball on the recruiting trail. My hopes were high for the Spartan’s 2025 class especially after they hired Saddi Washington who is known for being an elite recruiter, but this past week has been horrible for MSU.

The Spartans missed on three of their targets last week, including five-star Trey McKenney who some thought Michigan State actually led for. Still though the Spartans had their hands in many cookie jars so it wasn’t the end of the world yet.

Monday however Michigan State inched one step closer to it actually being the end of the world.

Five-star Darius Adams is another recruit that Michigan State was extremely high on, and it appears Adams was high on MSU as well. The Spartans were in Adams’ top three and they also just hosted him on a visit to East Lansing last weekend. So Michigan State had a very real chance of winning this recruitment.

But Adams announced his commitment on Monday and he is heading to the two-time defending national champion UConn Huskies.

Sigh.

What happens now?

I’m not sure where Tom Izzo and his staff turn now. They so far have missed on all of their plan A targets and are running out of guys they put a lot of emphasis on recruiting this cycle. And now that it’s almost October it might be too late to get involved with some of the other top recruits in this class.

Usually I’m one of the first people to tell others not to panic, and while I’m not full on panicking yet I’m getting dangerously close. All it takes is one or two more misses and Michigan State is in big trouble.

So I won’t stop you from sounding the alarm at this point if that’s what you choose to do.
