It's been a tough week for Michigan State basketball recruiting.

First, four-star big man Trent Sisley picked Indiana after considering Tom Izzo and the Spartans for a while. Then, Jalen Haralson included Michigan State in his top three before committing to Notre Dame after a recruitment that lasted a while and had very few insights. And now, five-star local combo gaurd Trey McKenney trimmed his list to three and Michigan State is nowhere to be found.

Just a brutal stretch, especially when you consider who actually made McKenney's top three.

That's right, McKenney is no longer considering the Spartans, per his top three, but will instead focus on Michigan, Georgetown, and USC. This is an interesting top three, but there has been smoke that Georgetown was a team to look out for and Michigan is that hometown school that he grew up watching. Michigan State apparently wasn't good enough to overtake USC.

This is especially painful because McKenney was supposed to visit the weekend of Oct. 4 officially which meant he would check out Midnight Madness and the Izzone Campout. That's out of the question now.

The once-expansive list of targets has now dwindled over the past week as it feels like Darius Adams, Dwayne Aristode, Jordan Scott, and Cam Ward are the only realistic options left.

Sure, the Spartans could kick the tires on guys like Jerry Easter, Davion Hannah, Niko Bundalo, or even Chris Cenac, but it looks like Adams, Aristode, Scott, and Ward are the likely finalists.

Let's hope Izzo has a plan for this -- which he probably does since he's a Hall of Famer.
