Former Michigan State basketball star Gabe Brown just got some amazing news as it was just announced that he will be joining the Miami Heat this summer on their Summer League team.

Brown joins both Malik Hall and Tyson Walker, who found out themselves they will be on Charlotte’s and Phoenix’s Summer League rosters, respectively.

This is a huge development for Brown as after he graduated from Michigan State in 2022, he went undrafted in the NBA draft and never made it into the league. He then played for Raptors 905 in the 2022-23 season, the G-League affiliate for the NBA’s Toronto Raptors. He spent one season there before moving overseas to continue his career.

Last year Brown played for Openjobmetis Varese, a very successful Italian club. Brown had a very impressive season where he averaged 11.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game across nearly 30 minutes per game. He also shot a blistering 41 percent from behind the arc, something we were used to seeing during his time at Michigan State.

It was this past season that likely attracted the Miami Heat enough to give him a chance on their Summer League team. Making a Summer League roster doesn’t guarantee a spot in the NBA or G-League, but it is yet another opportunity for him to prove himself and earn that spot. Even if Brown can make the G-League, that would be a step in the right direction from where he’s playing now in Italy.

Brown’s first game with the Heat is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. ET. It’s unclear if he’ll be ready to play on Sunday or not considering he just joined the team, but the Heat still have plenty more games after Sundays if he is unable to.

Here’s to hoping that Brown is able to take advantage of the opportunity given to him because it would be awesome to see him rise all the way from overseas basketball to the NBA in such a short amount of time.
