Big recruiting update for Michigan State basketball and top-30 recruit
Monday turned into quite the rollercoaster of a day for Michigan State basketball on the recruiting trail.
First, the Spartans saw one of their top targets announce their top 10 schools that somehow didn’t include MSU. This announcement came about 10 days after the recruit scheduled an official visit to Michigan State, so why the Spartans didn’t make the cut I have no idea.
Thankfully the bad luck ended there as another top recruiting target for Michigan State just announced his top nine and scheduled a bunch of official visits. And this time Michigan State did make the cut.
Davion Hannah is a four-star combo guard from Branson, Mo. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he is the No. 29 player in the entire country as well as the No. 4 combo guard and No. 3 player from Missouri.
Hannah’s official visit to Michigan State on Sept. 27 has been known for about a week now, but what hasn’t been known is who his top schools are. That question was answered on Monday night as Michigan State has made his top nine along with Alabama, NC State, Pittsburgh, Xavier, Cincinnati, Louisville, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.
This top nine is honestly quite surprising as the heavy hitting programs you’d expect to see for this highly ranked of a recruit are nowhere to be found. In fact, I’d argue that MSU is the most prestigious program out of the bunch.
This could help Michigan State’s chances in the long run, especially considering Tom Izzo is the greatest coach included in the top nine as well.
Izzo and his staff have prioritized Hannah for quite some time now, so I would like to think that the Spartans are towards the top of his list. But we likely won’t find out much information until all of these official visits wrap up.
But until then, we know Izzo will keep pushing hard and maybe Hannah will turn into the first Michigan State commit of the 2025 class.
