This past weekend’s official visit schedule was rather quiet because Michigan State didn’t have any planned, at least according to 247Sports.
For a while, Michigan State had a visit scheduled with three-star legacy defensive lineman Amari Vickerson who committed to SMU back in January. He was supposed to visit on June 19, but with pretty much everyone on Michigan State’s board committing or canceling visits, Vickerson just joined the mix and no longer had a visit scheduled with the Spartans.
The schedule was empty and Pat Fitzgerald had time to really focus on capping off his 2027 class with 5-10 more commitments and with limited spots available, he can afford to be a little more selective.
With Vickerson as the lone man on campus, Fitzgerald really got to spend time courting him and trying to convince him to flip his commitment from SMU to MSU.
Did it work? Well, he hasn’t committed yet, but getting a talented legacy recruit like Vickerson on campus can’t hurt. His dad, Kevin Vickerson, played at Michigan State from 2001-04 and was selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. You know his dad would probably love for his son to follow his footsteps in East Lansing.
Unfortunately, Texas is also in the mix for the three-star defensive lineman from Cypress, Texas.
Vickerson is the No. 583 recruit in the 2027 class.
Michigan State is making a run after missing on several DL targets
Landing Vickerson wasn’t even on the radar a week ago, but after missing on several top defensive lineman targets, it only makes sense that Michigan State is getting back into the running.
Winston DeLattiboudere III helped set up an incredible official visit schedule with four-star defensive linemen left and right. Unfortunately, none of them committed after Ohimai Ozolua and most of the four-star targets ended up canceling their visits like Nehemiah Ombati and Marvin Nguetsop. And then there was Reinaldo Perez who committed to Indiana shortly after his MSU visit.
Then just last week, Dallas Ward committed to Rutgers when it looked like Michigan State was in a really good spot.
Vickerson may be the top remaining defensive line target and even though he’s a legacy recruit, it’d be impressive if Fitzgerald were able to flip him from SMU and land him over Texas.
