It looks like Michigan State will get some news soon.

The 2027 recruiting class is the main focus this summer and with several top Michigan State targets planning on making decisions before their senior seasons, the next 1.5 months are going to be huge for the Spartans.

Official visits will kick off at the end of the month and several top targets will be on campus over the month of June and even over the last weekend in May.

However, there’s one key legacy target who has yet to schedule a visit but who could very well be the No. 1 guy on Pat Fitzgerald’s recruiting board. Gideon Gash has two older brothers on the 2026 roster with Caleb Gash returning to the defensive backfield and Samson Gash committing to Fitzgerald and signing with the Spartans in the 2026 class, and they’re pushing for him to join them.

That’s not going to be as easy as originally expected with programs like Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech getting his first official visits with Michigan State yet to lock one in.

Although he’s a legacy, it’s going to be a battle to land him.

Fitzgerald now knows how much time he’ll likely have to land him before his commitment — I do believe that the recruitment won’t be closed until signing day, however.

According to Greg Smith of Rivals, Gash is down to six programs with a decision timeline set for July. That’s right, arguably the top remaining target on Fitzgerald’s 2027 recruiting board will be making a decision before his senior year which makes getting an official visit next month even more important.

Gash is the No. 70 recruit in the class and the No. 5 athlete, per 247Sports.

Michigan State fighting an uphill battle with Gideon Gash

Seeing which programs are involved with the youngest Gash brother is relatively demoralizing but we’ve seen Fitzgerald win these elite recruiting battles already — his older brother, Samson, is a prime example.

Gideon is being pursued by Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Indiana, LSU, Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin, among others. Michigan State may be the presumed favorite because of his siblings being in East Lansing already, but the fact that Texas Tech, Alabama, and Oklahoma are all getting a visit before the Spartans is concerning.

Early on, it looked like Michigan State might be able to lock Gideon in early on in the 2027 class, but he’s enjoying his recruitment and you can’t really blame him. No recruit wants to be considered a “lean” toward a certain school before even taking visits.

I still like Michigan State’s chances, but a July decision timeline changes things a bit.
