Michigan State football has been active in the transfer portal already and the Spartans look to be in play for Mississippi State transfer Aaron Brule.

Mel Tucker has been very active in the transfer portal since taking over as Michigan State football coach. That hasn’t changed this year.

After landing over a dozen transfers before the 2021 season, he admitted that he has people watching the transfer portal daily and seeing if there are any players who could fit the system.

So far, the Spartans have landed former four-star running back and Wisconsin transfer Jalen Berger but they are not done yet. They’ve hosted guys like Florida defensive end transfer Khris Bogle and UNLV linebacker transfer Jacoby Windmon and both looked to be trending toward the Spartans after this past weekend.

Bogle is being re-courted by Florida, however, as new head coach Billy Napier is hoping to keep him in Gainesville. The Spartans have also poked around a little bit with Georgia Tech running back transfer Jahmyr Gibbs.

But another name has popped up recently, as Justin Thind of 247Sports has reported, is Mississippi State linebacker transfer Aaron Brule.

Michigan State football making linebacker a priority

Is there writing on the wall for the linebacker position? We didn’t see a ton of Quavaris Crouch to end the season and the Spartans have been targeting multiple linebackers so far, so does that mean someone may be moving on? We have no idea, but it seems like there may be a void at linebacker next year and Windmon and Brule could fill it.

Could the Spartans land both linebackers? I don’t think it would hurt, but I’m not sure if the staff wants to spend two spots in the portal on a position that only starts two players and Cal Haladay is absolutely coming back next year as the guy.

Adding both wouldn’t be terrible, though. Windmon was an All-Mountain West player after putting up over 100 tackles this year and Brule was considered a second-round draft prospect before the season, according to Thind, and had 53 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three sacks this year.

Over the past two seasons, Brule has accounted for 127 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and four pass breakups at Mississippi State. He would be a great addition for the Spartans.
