Michigan State football trending with UNLV LB transfer Jacoby Windmon
Michigan State football has made a killing in the portal under Mel Tucker and the Spartans look to be close to adding another big name.
Every offseason is going to be exciting for as long as Mel Tucker is Michigan State football’s head coach and that’s because he utilizes the transfer portal as well as any coach in the country.
Last year, he landed over a dozen transfers and most of them had impacts on the Spartans’ turnaround 10-2 season. One of them — Kenneth Walker III — actually turned out to be a Heisman contender. Not too shabby for the first real offseason for Tucker.
And he’s carrying that portal success over into 2021.
The regular season is in the books and Michigan State is headed to the Peach Bowl to play ACC champion Pitt and he’s still recruiting in the portal with some big names on the market.
Tucker wasn’t lying when he said that he recruits every day and he wants his staff to do the same thing. He’s recruiting at an incredibly high level and while the 2022 class is expected to be solid, the portal class could also be elite.
Especially if the Spartans can land UNLV linebacker transfer Jacoby Windmon.
Windmon trending toward Michigan State football after visit
According to Corey Robinson of 247Sports, Windmon was on campus this past weekend along with Florida transfer Khris Bogle and three-star 2022 class defensive end Zion Young who recently decommitted from West Virginia.
All three look to be trending toward MSU.
In fact, Michigan State is officially the crystal ball favorite to land Windmon on 247Sports after his visit. This should come as no surprise because he immediately scheduled a visit to East Lansing after receiving an offer from Tucker and Michigan State.
This would be a massive addition for the Spartans because they need plenty of help on that side of the ball. He would be an upgrade at linebacker and was named to the All-Mountain West second team this season after recording 119 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles with UNLV.
Windmon would make for a nice potential All-Big Ten player in the middle of MSU’s defense.
