Kenneth Walker III has been a revelation in the transfer portal for Michigan State football this season and he’s become a Heisman Trophy finalist despite playing behind an average line.

With Walker raising his draft stock this season and likely finishing in the top three of Heisman voting, he’s likely headed to the NFL. Even if he did decide to return for some reason, he’s going to have some solid help behind him.

We’ll see if Jordon Simmons sticks around after a quiet sophomore season as well as Elijah Collins and Harold Joiner, but even if there is some attrition, there will also be addition.

Michigan State hit the transfer portal to look for that next Walker-like running back and Wisconsin’s Jalen Berger seemed to fit the bill.

On Monday, he made it official and committed to Michigan State.

Berger was one of the top running backs in the 2020 recruiting class and was expected to have a breakout season in 2021 but he split carries with a couple of other backs and was eventually dismissed from the program for other reasons.

Michigan State is taking a chance but the talent is definitely there.

Michigan State football’s offense is looking good for 2022

With Payton Thorne back for another season as starter and Jayden Reed and Jalen Nailor likely returning along with Tre Mosley, Maliq Carr, Keon Coleman, and Harold Joiner, this offense should take multiple steps in the right direction next season.

Jay Johnson has already worked wonders with this offense but he’s going to have more pieces to work with next season, and that’s not even counting the 2022 recruiting class.

Add Berger to the mix and you have a heck of a group.

Berger is “smooth and athletic” according to 247Sports and has some breakaway speed. He’s big at 6-0, 205 pounds, but he moves really well. He’s going to be a solid addition to this offense.
