Michigan State football landed one of the biggest fish of the 2019 recruiting class in four-star ATH Julian Barnett from Belleville, Mich.

When looking ahead to the Michigan State class of 2019, the future seems bright. Before Friday, the Spartans had two four-star commits in offensive tackle Spencer Brown and dual-threat quarterback Dwan Mathis.

Mark Dantonio landed another big in-state fish on Friday morning in four-star cornerback Julian Barnett from Belleville, Mich. He is teammates with three-star cornerback commit Davion Williams from the 2018 class and top 2019 target, five-star tackle Devontae Dobbs.

The top-100 recruit made the surprise announcement via Twitter on Friday morning, shocking just about everyone.

This was even a bigger surprise seeing as Ohio State had offered him on Thursday. He had been relatively tight-lipped throughout his recruiting process although he always had kind words for Michigan State.

Barnett is ranked the No. 60 player in the country, third-best cornerback and second-best recruit in Michigan, according to the 247Sports composite.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound athlete can play both sides of the ball, but he’s exceptional in the defensive backfield. In a couple of years, there’s a chance he could be starting alongside his former teammate, Williams, and continuing Michigan State’s resurgence of the ‘No Fly Zone.’

Barnett is now the Spartans’ first cornerback commit for 2019 and takes a big name off the board for Dantonio and the coaching staff. More dominoes could fall because of this pledge, such as Dobbs.
