Michigan State Football: Top 5 remaining targets in 2018 recruiting class
With Michigan State football’s 2018 recruiting class coming to a close, here are the Spartans’ top five remaining targets.
The 2018 class is coming to a close and Michigan State might just be 1-2 guys away from sealing it up and moving on to 2019. The Spartans have picked up 20 commitments, with the latest coming on Saturday from Michigan’s Mr. Football La’Darius Jefferson.
Before that, Kalon Gervin, a Detroit-native, committed and became the Spartans’ highest-rated pledge in the class. Michigan State’s 2018 class is coming together quite nicely and it might be slightly better than people give it credit for. Still, there is room for a couple of guys if they want to make the jump to the green and white.
Who are the top five remaining targets for Michigan State in the 2018 class? Here’s a look at who the Spartans might finish the class with.
Honorable Mention
With the 2018 class looking all but sewn up, there is room for a couple of guys and some of them might be recent de-commits from programs that hired new coaches and fired the ones who recruited them. There are others in this honorable mention category that might not be eligible or just haven’t received or given enough interest recently and are long-shots.
Let’s start with some recent de-commits. First, there’s Antwan Reed from Muskegon, Mich., who is a four-star offensive tackle. He recently de-committed from Penn State and was a long-time MSU target. Next, there’s Markese Stepp, a four-star running back, who de-committed from Notre Dame, but since the Spartans added another running back last week, he’s not likely.
Shocky Jacques-Louis is a Tennessee de-commit and three-star receiver who was once a top flip candidate, but has since cooled. Lastly, Braden Lenzy, a four-star defensive back, de-committed from Oregon, but Notre Dame might just be his top option now.
A couple of other names to keep an eye on are Kentucky pledge DeAndre Square who is teammates with Kalon Gervin, three-star defensive tackle Dashaun Mallory from Ohio and four-star cornerback Jairus Brents from Kentucky.
