Michigan State football recruiting roundup: Week 6
It was somewhat of a slow week for Michigan State football recruiting prospects as many guys had quiet performances while some did not have a game. Let’s take a look at the week six roundup anyways to see how some of Mark Dantonio’s future stars performed.

Note: not all of the guys mentioned are commits, some are targets as well.
To start things off, we are going to look at the 2016 class and then give stats and maybe highlights of other classes at the end.
Four-star defensive tackle Naquan Jones has a bright future in the green and white, especially if he can keep putting together solid performances. Last week he had seven tackles and two for a loss and putting together an eight-tackle performance this week. Oh yeah, and he also nearly had an interception on a screen pass, letting it slip off his fingertips. He’ll get it next time, I’m sure.
The class’ quarterback, four-star Messiah deWeaver, continues to have an All-American type of season. He completed 14-of-23 passes for 214 yards and three touchdowns in three quarters of a 35-0 victory on Friday night. On the year, he has completed 64 percent of his throws for 1,176 yards, 12 touchdowns and no interceptions while running for another. Huber Heights Wayne (Ohio) is 6-0.
Two teammates battle it out in a big-time win for Detroit King over crosstown rival Detroit Cody. Neither is currently committed to MSU, but Coach D is hoping to land both Donnie Corley and Lavert Hill.
Corley finished with six catches for 188 yards and two touchdowns to go along with two interceptions on defense. Hill had three interceptions and a 52-yard touchdown reception. King is just scary good.
Meanwhile, in Kenney Lyke news:
Four-star linebacker commit Jonah Morris is continuing to show off on the offensive side of the ball, catching three passes for 103 yards and a touchdowns in the first half of a blowout Archbishop Hoban (Ohio) win. He also added a fumble returned for a touchdown after he ripped it out of the ballcarrier’s hands.
The future of the MSU wide receiving corps is extremely bright, especially when Cam Chambers is dominating high school ball. The four-star wide out caught five passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Underrated three-star linebacker commit Joe Bachie pulled off an amazing WWE-style tackle last week and then followed it up with a two-yard touchdown run this week in a loss.
The last of the 2016 commits/targets needs to be mentioned. Four-star Ohio State athlete commit, and former teammate of MSU running back L.J. Scott, George Hill had an outstanding game on Friday night for Hubbard High (Ohio). He finished with 261 rushing yards and three rushing scores while averaging 13.7 yards per carry. Hill also caught a touchdown pass of 32 yards.
On to a few highlights.
Most underrated recruit right now, quarterback target Jairus Grissom of 2017 class:
Michigan State really likes this kid. Four-star running back target for 2017, Jarell White:
Lastly, Sam Johnson III could be the top quarterback in the class of 2019 before it’s all said and done:
Other performances from week six:
- Rodney Hall, NR 2017 QB target: 279 passing yards, 3 TD; 81 rushing yards, 1 TD — 22 total touchdowns in six games
- Todd Sibley, 4-star 2017 RB target: 135 rushing yards and a touchdown
- Donovan Peoples-Jones, 5-star 2017 WR target: 4 catches, 174 yards, 3 TDs
