These 10 Michigan State recruiting targets in the 2017 football class should be considered must-gets.

Michigan State recruiting has been getting criticized by Spartan fans concerned about the 2017 football class. Why are there no top-tier recruits committed yet, especially with the success the program has had over the past decade?

In due time.

More from Recruiting

A program doesn’t build up into one of the recruiting powerhouses like Alabama or Ohio State overnight, it has to have years and years of recent success as proof. The 2016 class under Mark Dantonio was his best yet and it’s only looking up from here.

Although there aren’t many “gems” in the 2017 class just yet, there are over a dozen of top targets still on the board who are seriously looking at Michigan State.

Funny thing is, you’ll hear these fans complaining about three-stars now, but the class might end up being just as good, if not better, than the 2016 group. Three years down the line, no one will even remember the stars in which each recruit was as they’ll be showing off on the field.

Let’s take a look at the top 12 remaining 2017 football recruiting targets, starting it off with a half-dozen honorable mention must-gets.

Honorable Mention

Scott Nelson, 3-star S (Detroit, Mich.): Local prospect Scott Nelson has been showing interest in Michigan State for some time now and many thought he might commit at the spring game. He’s a top talent in the state of Michigan and the staff wants him.

Jarell White, 4-star RB/LB (Cincinnati, Ohio): Four-star running back Jarell White is likely being recruited as a linebacker by the Spartans, and the interest is definitely mutual. He’s just waiting on an offer and that could end his recruiting process.

Jacub Panasiuk, 3-star DE (Roselle, Ill.): Brother of 2016 defensive tackle commit Mike Panasiuk, Jacub looks to be a Spartan lock and he’s announcing in the middle of June where he’ll play college ball. The three-star end could form a dynamic duo with his brother in a couple of years.

Jaylen Kelly-Powell, 4-star S (Detroit, Mich.): Although four-star safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell is a Michigan-lean right now, the Spartans have made up some ground. Could they continue to fight for the in-state target or let Michigan have him?

Langston Frederick, 3-star CB (League City, Texas): This kid is seemingly on the verge of committing to the green and white, and despite his low ranking on recruiting services, he’s a must-get. If you take the time to watch his HUDL film, you’ll see he’s very comparable to Darqueze Dennard.

Jordan Reid, 3-star OG (Detroit, Mich.): Last, but certainly not least, on the list of honorable mention targets, three-star guard Jordan Reid seems to also be a kid who’s close to picking Michigan State. He showed off at The Opening in Columbus, Ohio, last week with an OL MVP award.
