If you told me a few months ago that Michigan State basketball’s 2026 recruiting class in the middle of October would be Julius Avent and Carlos Medlock Jr., I would’ve been thrilled.
If you then told me that the Spartans were at the top of the list for three more four and five-star prospects with looming decisions, I would’ve probably thrown a party.
Tom Izzo has kicked off the 2026 recruiting class spectacularly, and it’s only going to get better.
The Spartans have two four-stars ranked in the top 100 nationally already committed, and there are 3-4 more guys ranked in the top-50 range who are high on Michigan State. But who could be the next to join Medlock and Avent in the Spartans’ 2026 class?
Who will be Michigan State basketball’s next commit?
There are legitimately 3-4 options here between Ethan Taylor, Jasiah Jervis, Maximo Adams, and Tristan Reed, but one stands out above the rest for me, mostly because he has a decision date announced and I believe Michigan State is the current leader.
That one is Jervis.
The four-star shooting guard from New York came to Michigan State for an official visit during Grind Week, and he was there with Medlock. He got to meet some former players, get acquainted with the team, and take in a football game in early-September in East Lansing. What more could you ask for?
Jervis has a top five, but he seemingly trimmed Illinois from that list after canceling his official visit with the Illini this past weekend. He’ll be at Tennessee this upcoming weekend, and NC State and Pitt are also threats, but Michigan State is the leader heading into a Nov. 5 decision date.
While I do think Jervis is next, I think Taylor could be an option, too. He’s closing in on a decision, and it felt like his Michigan State visit really opened his eyes. Again, I think MSU leads here.
If I’m going in order of who I think could be next, it would have to be Jervis, then Taylor — and then Adams and Reed are toss-ups.
Kicking off the 2026 class with Jervis, Medlock, and Avent will have fans whispering about Izzo’s second title. Add in Taylor and Adams and those whispers will turn into yells.
