Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball got some good news on Wednesday afternoon.
Four-star power forward, and top-80 overall prospect, Julius Avent announced that he would be committing to Michigan State over Xavier and Seton Hall. He visited campus on Aug. 30, and Izzo took a trip out east to see him last week.
Whatever Izzo said must have worked because he canceled his final visit to Seton Hall this weekend to make his decision. He’s now the Spartans’ second 2026 class commit along with Carlos Medlock Jr.
Izzo is obviously still working on other priority targets with 2-3 spots likely available for the 2026 cycle, but there’s one guy that’s atop everyone’s wish list: Jasiah Jervis.
The top-40 shooting guard has been made a priority by Izzo, and now he’s become one for the Spartans’ newest commit. Avent said on Wednesday after he committed to Michigan State that he’s working on getting Jervis to join the class.

Avent brings a strong inside-out game to the frontcourt, but he knows that every great team has to have an elite backcourt. Jervis would complete an elite two-man backcourt class with Medlock, and give Michigan State a truly bright outlook for years to come.
The class is already looking special with Medlock and Avent, but landing Jervis is a priority. Obviously landing another big would be good, too, but Jervis has been on Izzo’s radar for a while.
Izzo has already been putting in serious work on Jervis, visiting him multiple times since his official to East Lansing on Sept. 5, but Avent could really help sway the four-star guard.
