Michigan State basketball fans were greeted with some good news on Wednesday afternoon as four-star shooting guard Jasiah Jervis committed to the Spartans.
Tom Izzo’s 2026 class went from two commits to three, adding a third four-star, with a potential fourth commit on the way. There’s talk that this class could even be as deep as five commits, but that’s a rarity these days, and I’d almost expect Izzo to land four and then save a potential fifth spot for the portal.
Jervis’ commitment means that he joins Carlos Medlock Jr. and Julius Avent in the Spartans’ 2026 class, and he’s likely to play big minutes on a team that will need him in 2026-27.
If you’ve been paying attention through exhibition play and the season opener, Michigan State might have a problem at the two-guard spot, but Jervis will help solve that with his plus shooting and elite playmaking ability from that shooting guard position. He’s just what the doctor ordered.
Now, it’s time for Izzo to look ahead to the next commit. Who will it be?
I think the obvious answer has to be Ethan Taylor. The five-star center from Link Academy in Missouri (teammates with Medlock) has been high on the Spartans for a little while now, but it felt like his visit to East Lansing really vaulted Michigan State to the top of his list. I mean, he was literally crowd-surfing at the Izzone Campout. He said he never experienced a night like that.
Taylor is the recruit that fans have been wanting in East Lansing for a while now. He could be a dominant big man, standing 7-foot-0, 244-pound five-star who is ranked the No. 2 center in the 2026 class and he has all the tools to be what fans had hoped Xavier Booker was.
There’s no word on when Taylor might commit, but I’d assume it comes within the next month, and my bet is that the good guys win here.
