Michigan State landed four-star point guard Carlos Medlock Jr. earlier this week and it's safe to say Tom Izzo and the rest of Spartan Nation are thrilled to have him.
This is arguably the best possible start to the 2026 recruiting class because now Medlock can recruit guys to complement his game. He will be on campus for Grind Week with a few other targets, including Quinn Costello and Jasiah Jervis who are both four-stars and top-100 recruits.
Both Costello and Jervis are expected to be top targets moving forward and the guy I really want is the latter to complement Medlock in the backcourt. Plus, Jervis is the fastest-rising shooting guard in the 2026 class and he could pair nicely with Medlock who plays a lot bigger than 5-foot-11.
Medlock may have a smaller frame, but he has a little dog in him and that was proven in a recent video that surfaced of him dunking on five-star Michigan signee Trey McKenney.

OK, so McKenney may have been slightly behind him on the fast break and opted to foul instead of go up for the block, but Medlock still finished the play with a dunk and an and-one. Pretty impressive for a 5-11 guard against a 6-foot-4 five-star prospect.
Does this really mean anything? Other than the fact that the Spartans got a great player with surprising ups, not really. McKenney is going to be a great player for Michigan but right now, Medlock has some bragging rights because of this play.
Well that and the fact that Michigan State has swept the Wolverines in back-to-back seasons.
