Top Michigan State incoming freshman WR reportedly dealing with an injury already

The injury curse has struck before even getting to campus.

The injury bug has plagued Michigan State football for as long as I can remember and now even a top Spartan signee who has yet to even make it to campus has been bitten by it.

Fortunately, this one doesn’t sound too serious.

Michigan State incoming freshman Samson Gash, the older brother of current official visitor Gideon Gash, was participating in the Division 1 boys track & field finals on Saturday when he apparently suffered an injury that required him to jog the 100-meter dash.

According to Jared Ramsey, the defending state champion in the 100-meter dash was forced to jog the final at the event in order to protect an injury. He finished 20 seconds (!!) behind the new champ.

After looking around for more info, I couldn’t seem to find where he actually injured himself, but this sounds like he tweaked something and still wanted to participate in the 100-meter so he jogged it out. The fact that he was jogging should prove that this isn’t a serious injury, but it’s still something to monitor moving forward as he’s set to head to campus in a few weeks.

Courtney Hawkins has to hope this isn’t a serious injury because Gash could be part of the offensive plan during his true freshman season. The Spartans could use more receiver help.

The injury bug never sleeps in East Lansing, even for recruits who have yet to make it to campus.

Samson Gash’s weekend went a lot different than his brothers’

While Samson was competing at the track & field finals this weekend, his brothers were in East Lansing living it up. Shortly after the surprise announcement that Gideon would be on campus for an official visit, pictures surfaced of him and his older brother, Caleb, on the Spartan Stadium turf with the four-star target in full MSU gear.

Meanwhile, Samson was apparently nursing an injury that prevented him from defending his 100-meter title. I’d bet that Samson probably wishes he went to East Lansing with his younger brother instead of jogging that 100-meter final but he’ll be there soon enough.

Gideon, on the other hand, will be wrapping up his visit on Sunday and he’ll be facing a huge decision as he checks out Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Alabama before a July timeline.

Pat Fitzgerald is doing everything he can to make sure all three Gash brothers are Spartans.
