Friday should be a big day for Michigan State basketball.
The Spartans will officially begin preparing for the annual Champions Classic against No. 9 Kentucky following a Thursday night battle with San Jose State. Michigan State should be 3-0 by the time it faces Kentucky, but there are two more interesting storylines to follow on Friday.
One is the decision of five-star center Ethan Taylor who’s announcing his commitment. He is down to a handful of programs, and it feels like Michigan State is the leader. He’s also teammates with 2026 Spartan commit Carlos Medlock Jr., a four-star point guard.
The other is the announcement of five-star small forward Maximo Adams who also took an official visit to Michigan State and has included the Spartans on his narrowed list.

Maximo Adams told ESPN that he will make his college decision on Friday, November 14.
He has narrowed his choices to Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina, and Texas.

Unfortunately, the tea leaves are saying North Carolina for Adams.
I still feel good about the Spartans landing Taylor and I’d be shocked if anything else occurred, but Adams took a recent trip to North Carolina and then canceled his last visit which was supposed to be Duke. Usually when a recruit cancels his next visit right after taking one, he has his mind made up, and it usually means the previous visit was the winner.
Not only that, but all experts seem to be hinting at North Carolina being the leader heading into decision day, and I just don’t see Izzo signing a five-man class — although he wouldn’t say no here.
Adams is ranked the No. 22 prospect and 10th-best small forward in the 2026 class, but unfortunately he’s probably headed to Chapel Hill.
