It’s been a rough fall for Michigan State fans, but there’s one man who can save them right now: Tom Izzo. The legendary Michigan State basketball coach has been picking up the pieces after disappointing football seasons for decades, and this year is no different.

The Spartans just tipped off their 2025-26 season on Monday with an 80-69 win over Colgate, and while Izzo wasn’t pleased with how his team played, he does seem to be happy with recruiting.

Izzo has landed two four-star recruits in the 2026 class already, and he might be close to picking up another major commitment on Wednesday.

And during his weekly radio show on Tuesday, Izzo hinted that the Spartans may be on commit watch.

Izzo said “some things might shake out in the next couple of days” when referring to the recruiting trail, and the only thing happening in that time frame, at least officially, is the Jasiah Jervis announcement.

While him saying that things might shake out could mean anything from a commitment to a re-evaluating of remaining targets, he did seem optimistic while talking about it.

Michigan State has been the presumed favorite for Jervis for a little while now, and many believe that the fit is perfect. Plus, if he wants to have a major role, he’d be joining a roster next season that will desperately need a two-guard to step up. The Spartans are currently experiencing that problem through two exhibition games and a season opener.

Jervis commits on Wednesday, and Ethan Taylor next? That would be the best-case scenario of a 2026 class. The only thing that could make it better would be Maximo Adams surprising everyone and picking Michigan State over North Carolina.

Izzo is pretty calm for a coach who could have Class of 2016 2.0 on his hands.
