There have been several Gideon Gash updates over the past couple of weeks for Michigan State, starting with an official visit schedule that didn’t include the Spartans.
The younger brother of 2026 signee Samson Gash and current defensive back Caleb Gash is entering his senior year with Detroit Catholic Central and he just so happens to be one of Pat Fitzgerald’s primary targets in the 2027 class. As a legacy recruit, it makes sense that Michigan State would be considered an early favorite, but that idea has since been extinguished.
Gash has visits scheduled to Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Alabama over the next month but nothing has been set in stone for Michigan State. That’s slightly concerning given his decision timeline.
That update came earlier this week when Gash also hinted at his relationship with Michigan State leading to a visit. He claimed to be planning a visit to East Lansing and his decision timeline was set for July.
Well, there’s been another update, but this one isn’t as positive as the last.
On Saturday afternoon, the younger brother of a couple of Spartans paid a surprise visit to the program down the road in Ann Arbor. That’s right, he was at Michigan on Saturday.

Obviously he’s going to consider the current top program in the state that won a national title just three years ago, but I just can’t see him playing for his brothers’ biggest rival.
Time is running out for Michigan State to get Gash to campus and that has to happen before decision day or the Spartans are going to be praying for a pre-signing day flip.
Gash is ranked the No. 70 recruit in the 2027 class as well as the fifth-best athlete on 247Sports. He’s also the state of Michigan’s second-best prospect. Landing him would be huge for the Spartan program and he could be a legitimate Day 1 starter.
Michigan State hasn’t given up on Gideon Gash
Fitzgerald has sent his coaching staff to check on the four-star defensive back and there’s already talk of a pending official visit that has yet to be scheduled with with Michigan State.
It’s in the works apparently.
It’s going to take a relentless (sorry for using the Mel Tucker word) effort to land Gash over programs like Michigan, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech, but the Spartans have the advantage of saying, “If you want to play with your brothers, stay home.”
Gash’s meteoric rise up the recruiting rankings over the past few months has led to more interest from top programs and he’s enjoying the process, but Michigan State needs to lock in here before he slips away.
