The 2026 Michigan State basketball recruiting class has a chance to be special, and there are likely 2-3 spots remaining to fill if Tom Izzo is looking to land a full group.
It's rare these days to land five-man recruiting classes, and Izzo rarely ever signs a class that big, so I would be shocked if he went with five guys -- unless all of his Plan As commit. If he does land five, it'll be five really good players. He's not going to take just anyone at this point.
So far, Michigan State has two commits in the 2026 class in Julius Avent and Carlos Medlock Jr. The former committed this fall and the latter has been a Spartan since the summer. They're now waiting to add some future teammates to the class, and Medlock could be of service to Izzo and the Spartans considering he's teammates with two Michigan State targets.
There are just a handful of targets left on the board for the Spartans, and here's where I think they'll land when it's all said and done.
Jasiah Jervis, 4-star SG (No. 39 nationally)
Jasiah Jervis is someone who every Spartan fan wants to see in the green and white. He's a talented shooting guard who's ranked third in the country at the position, but his ceiling might even be higher than that. He's been looking at Pitt, Tennessee, and NC State along with the Spartans, and it feels like Will Wade and the Wolfpack might be the biggest threats here. I trust Izzo.
Prediction: Michigan State
Maximo Adams, 5-star SF (No. 25 nationally)
A guy I really want to see in a Michigan State uniform is Maximo Adams, a five-star small forward from Chatsworth, Calif. However, it feels like he's trending in another direction. My best guess would be North Carolina considering he just took a trip to Chapel Hill and then immediately canceled his final official to Duke, but it's really anyone's guess who the leader is. I'm going with my gut, though.
Prediction: North Carolina
Tristan Reed, 4-star C (No. 69 nationally)
One of the next recruits to be announcing his decision is none other than four-star center Tristan Reed, the younger brother of former Wolverine and current UConn Husky center Tarris Reed. He's been high on the Spartans and took a visit to East Lansing, but the word on the street right now is that he's trending to the other MSU.
Prediction: Mississippi State
Ethan Taylor, 5-star C (No. 24 nationally)
This one's tough for me. I think Michigan State is in a really good spot with Ethan Taylor, and the fact that he's teammates with Medlock is a good sign, but Kansas and Indiana worry me a little. I do think the Spartans hold the upper hand because of Medlock and the fact that Izzo has come on really strongly with him lately. Izzo closes this one and picks up an elite center.
Prediction: Michigan State
In the end, I think Michigan State lands two more recruits out of the four top remaining targets, and the Spartans will finish with a class of Medlock, Avent, Taylor, and Jervis. That would make a lot of fans very happy.
