Now this is something you don’t see too often. Moneyball has been a staple for Michigan State basketball for many years now, and typically it’s restricted to current players.

That wasn’t the case Tuesday night.

Two former Spartans surprised everyone and showed up to Moneyball on Tuesday. But they weren’t there as fans, they were there as players.

Tyson Walker and Marcus Bingham Jr. play in Moneyball on Tuesday

Former Michigan State basketball stars Tyson Walker and Marcus Bingham Jr. showed up at Moneyball on Tuesday and teamed up with Carson Cooper and Tre Holloman on Team Snipes.

Their team surprisingly lost (thanks to the heroics from Kur Teng) but both players played extremely well. Walker scored 22 points including two 3-pointers while Bingham added 29 of his own points with three 3-pointers.

Walker is fresh off playing in the NBA’s Summer League with the Phoenix Suns. He still is looking for where he’ll play professionally this year, but he had some solid performances at Summer League which should help his case.

Bingham on the other hand has found his home playing for Hapoel Haifa, a professional basketball team in the top Israeli league. He is coming off an amazing season where he actually set a single-game league record earlier this season with 26 rebounds.

It’s always fun seeing former Spartans come back to hang around the current team. Cassius Winston and Matt McQuaid did this recently as well, and this just speaks to the elite culture that Tom Izzo has built in his program.

We’ll have to wait and see how both of their professional careers pan out, especially Walker since we don’t yet know where he’ll be playing next. But one thing I know is Michigan State fans, and the entire basketball program, will support them every step of the way.
