Tom Herman slams Big House as he discusses playing at Spartan Stadium

This is the best quote I’ve ever seen from an opposing coach.

Michigan State football is gearing up for its first game under Jonathan Smith as the Spartans get ready to take on Florida Atlantic on Friday.

Now that it’s officially game week, we finally get to hear Smith as well as other members of his staff and team specifically talk about FAU. Up until now the focus has been solely on improving Michigan State as a team, but with the game just days away the team is full steam ahead in their preparations for FAU.

Now while it’s fun to listen to what members from Michigan State have to say, I find it more interesting sometimes hearing what Michigan State’s opponents have to say about MSU. And Florida Atlantic head coach Tom Herman just gave one of the best quotes I’ve ever seen.

In case you didn’t know, Herman had a short stint at Ohio State from 2012-2014 as the Buckeyes' offensive coordinator. So he knows a lot about the Big Ten especially when it comes to the stadiums and their environments. He specifically knows a lot about coaching in Spartan Stadium as he coached OSU in East Lansing in 2012 and 2014.

It’s that experience that Herman drew on during his pregame press conference when he commented about how difficult it is to play in Spartan Stadium. Seems like a pretty standard thing to discuss right?

Just you wait until you see this beautiful quote.

"That stadium in Ann Arbor holds 40,000 more people, and I thought the one in East Lansing was significantly louder and more disruptive for an offense. We’re going to have our hands full when it comes to playing in that environment."

Tom Herman

There you have it. Not only does Herman think Michigan State fans make Spartan Stadium am extremely difficult place to play, but he thinks it’s “significantly louder and more disruptive” than the Big House.

How can that not bring a smile to your face as a Michigan State fan?

We pride ourselves on making it difficult on Michigan State’s opponents, so it’s nice to see an opposing coach give us some credit. And it’s even better to hear that we are that much better than those fans of the team down the road.

Now let’s hope Spartan nation can back up these comments made by Herman and help the team win on Friday night and accomplish their goals the entire season.
