The importance of the 2024 football season for Michigan State football can't be understated. After two below average years and the terrible Mel Tucker incident, the program needs stability and a positive season now more than ever.

Thankfully it appears Jonathan Smith is up to the task.

Now we all know that Michigan State won't be competing for championships this fall, but that doesn't mean this season doesn't matter. There are many attainable goals out there we can set for MSU that will show us that the program is on the right trajectory.

Here are the three goals that I have for the team this fall.

1. Bowl eligibility

Now a 6-6 season isn't cause for a huge celebration, but I can't lie, I'd be pretty pumped with that record.

Michigan State has failed to make a bowl game two years in a row now which is unacceptable for the Spartans' standards, so getting back to a bowl game is the bare minimum for this season. In my opinion, it doesn't even have to be a premier bowl either. I'd be just fine with Michigan State going to the bowl game held at Ford Field (no, I don't even know the name) because this would be concrete proof that the team is improving.

We can dream big for Michigan State in the years to come, but this year I just want to see the Spartans play in the postseason.
