Projecting defensive starters for Michigan State football in 2024
Cornerback 1: Ed Woods
I think we all know how bad the Michigan State secondary has been the past three years, so we don’t need to go into specifics about that. But add that with the loss of arguably one of MSU’s better players in Jaden Manghamand you can see how scary it could look for the Spartan’s secondary.
However, Smith has made a lot of big moves this offseason to improve the group even with Mangham’s departure, and that begins with transfer Ed Woods.
Woods is a transfer from Arizona State who has spent four seasons with the Sun Devils. Woods was one of the top corners available in the country when he committed to Michigan State this offseason, and rightfully so.
During the 2023 season, Woods totaled an impressive 33 tackles and four pass breakups. He also accounted for one interception and two forced fumbles.
Woods brings so much experience to a unit that needs it desperately. His commitment this offseason may just be the most underrated for Michigan State in Smith’s tenure, and I think people are going to quickly fall in love with Woods this fall.
