Some more exciting news is already heading Michigan State basketball’s way just after finishing their trip to Spain.

With all the attention focused on the Spartans' three games in Spain, many fans, myself included, have forgotten about recruiting. Thankfully Tom Izzo has not.

Izzo has always been a relentless recruiter and, once again, is proving that, as arguably his top target in the 2025 class, he has scheduled a visit to Michigan State.

According to Dushawn London of 247Sports, five-star guard Trey McKenney will visit Michigan State on Oct. 4. This visit coincides with Michigan State’s annual Midnight Madness event.

McKenney is one of the top players in the country and currently checks in as the No. 15 overall player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. McKenney also is the No. 3 shooting guard in his class and the top-ranked player from the state of Michigan.

McKenney has been one of Izzo’s top targets this entire cycle, so Michigan State getting an official visit from him is no surprise.

A few weeks ago, McKenney released his top 10 schools, including Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Creighton, UCLA, Miami, Oregon, USC, Georgetown, and Michigan State. However, it appears McKenney may have indirectly cut his list down to six schools now with this recent update.

On top of Michigan State’s official visit, McKenney will also officially visit USC, Michigan, Oregon, Miami, and Notre Dame.

On paper, this seems like a group of programs that Michigan State should be able to beat, especially with Izzo putting the full-court press on McKenney. But we’ll have to wait and see how these six visits go before we learn more about where Michigan State stands.

No predictions have been made in McKenney’s recruitment yet and no commitment date has been announced either, but I anticipate both will occur soon after he wraps up all of his upcoming visits.
