It's impossible to give freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh enough praise after his impressive performance in the Spartans' 27-24 win at Maryland. The freshman exploded in only his second game of his career for eight catches, 194 yards, and one touchdown.

It's that touchdown that stands out the most as he and quarterback Aidan Chiles were able to connect on a 77-yard bomb to tie the game just one play after Maryland missed a key field goal.

The best part about Marsh's game however is that he was able to be effective in multiple different ways. I already mentioned the big touchdown he and Chiles connected on, but this was just one of two deep balls that Marsh hauled in during the game. But on top of those deep balls, Marsh made a lot of catches for smaller gains to help move the chains. This was best seen during Michigan State's final drive when he caught multiple key passes to help setup Jonathan Kim's game winner.

After a performance as impressive as his was, it's no surprise to find out that Marsh is receiving multiple weekly awards. The first of those came as the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week.

On top of winning this Big Ten award, 247Sports also named Nick Marsh the True Freshman of the Week.

Both awards are clearly very impressive, but the one from 247Sports stands out to me the most. The Big Ten award is just that, a conference award, whereas the one from 247Sports is a national award. So Marsh not only was the best freshman in the Big Ten on Saturday, he was the best freshman in the country.

Another impressive statistic about Marsh is that he already only needs 323 more receiving yards to set the freshman receiving yards record at Michigan State. And after going for nearly 200 yards against Maryland this record feels like it will be reached in just a couple weeks.

Marsh honestly might even have a chance to crack the top 10 single season receiving yards list in MSU history this season as well. He needs to reach 1,014 yards to enter the top 10 in Michigan State history, and with 10 (hopefully 11) games remaining that also feels doable.

I can't wait to see how great of a player Marsh becomes. He has all the makings of being the next great Spartan wide receiver, so we'd be wise to sit back and enjoy greatness while it's right in front of us.
