As the first season under Jonathan Smith approaches, it’s hard to think about anything other than how Michigan State football will do this fall. There is so much riding on this season alone as MSU looks to get their program back on track after a rough few seasons.

However, even with all the focus on the upcoming season, it’s hard to not think about the future of the program beyond this season.

Smith and his staff have done an excellent job recruiting the 2025 class, and one of the best commitments they got just so happened to be the first for this class.

Three-star quarterback Leo Hannan was the first recruit to commit to Michigan State’s class back on April 22. Hannan has received a lot of praise from the media and is someone I think is severely underrated, but you know who else thinks highly of him? His head coach.

Last week, Hannah’s head coach spoke with On3’s Jason Killop about his quarterback, and the quote he shared makes me really excited for his future at Michigan State.

“There really isn’t much on the football field that he can’t physically do, so I’m excited to see what he can do as a senior.”

According to Hannan’s head coach Chris Reinert, Hannan has all the physical tools to be a great QB at the next level. That’s why I think Hannan is severely underrated as the No. 807 player and No. 45 QB in the country.

Sure his head coach is biased (as am I), but I don’t think his coach would say that for no reason. Watching Hannan’s tape you can see for yourself that he has all the tools in order to be successful, even at such young of an age.

While the quarterback spot will be held down by Aidan Chiles for the foreseeable future, the excitement around Hannan is building. He’ll have a great chance to take over the starting role when Chiles’ career at Michigan State is done, and I have complete faith that he’ll be ready when the time comes.

And if I had to guess, I would predict that Hannan will sky rocket up the recruiting rankings in no time.
