One of the really cool things about Big Ten Media Days is that all the players in attendance get to interact with each other. Sure they want to beat each other on the field, but there’s a level of respect between them all as division one athletes.

The players also get asked some interesting questions from the media sometimes, and that was true for the Michigan State football representatives on Wednesday.

Michigan State defensive back Dillon Tatum was specifically asked about Michigan’s national championship run and the Wolverines' star running back Donovan Edwards, who Tatum played with in high school. It's a silly question to ask if you ask me, but considering Tatum and Edwards are still close to this day I guess it’s fair game.

But Tatum’s response to this was perfect.

"Oh yeah it was great! Really great run. Watching that team that shut us out at home was a fun experience. Super happy for that team and all they went through."

You couldn’t have asked for a better response than this from Tatum. He gave Michigan the respect they deserve without saying anything he would regret later. But you can also tell from his response that there’s a sense of sarcasm, a sense of “why are you asking this question?”

I’m sure there is a part of Tatum that is happy for Edwards. Why wouldn’t he be? He’s someone he went to high school with and still speaks with weekly, so I’m sure he was even just a little excited for him.

But everyone else on Michigan’s team? I’m sure Tatum didn’t feel happy for them.

Regardless, I’m happy with the way Tatum handled this question. The last thing we would have wanted him to do is give Michigan bulletin board material. Thankfully that didn’t happen, and this can just go down as a silly question from the reporter.
