Michigan State football and Jonathan Smith are at the point in the offseason where their entire focus is on recruiting. Whether that be in the high school ranks or transfer portal, Smith and his staff have a lot of work to do to improve the roster.

The staff has been rewarded recently on the recruiting trail with a lot of commitments, and they are getting more good news once again as Michigan State has made the top seven for one of the top defensive backs in the country.

LaRue Zamorano is a four-star corner from Corona, Calif. The various recruiting sites are pretty mixed on their rankings for him, but Rivals is the recruiting site that is extremely high on him. According to Rivals, Zamorano is the No. 225 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 23 corner in the country as well as the No. 22 player from the state of California.

This will be an extremely difficult recruitment for Smith and Michigan State to win as many major programs are recruiting him hard as well. Along with Michigan State, Oregon, Penn State, Arizona, Washington, Kansas, and USC are included in Zamorano’s top seven as well.

However, one school in particular is at the top of his list, and that is USC. The Trojans are the only school with an official prediction in their favor in Zamorano’s recruitment, and they have one on 247Sports and Rivals.

Washington is another school to keep an eye on as they are the only other school, along with USC, in his top seven with an official visit scheduled for this summer.

Michigan State does have an opportunity to bring Zamorano on campus for an official visit soon, but it seems unlikely MSU will be able to pry him away from USC. I’ll never give up hope especially considering the hot streak Smith is on, but this is a recruitment that I won’t get my hopes up too high in just yet.
