Michigan State basketball target Frankie Fidler pushes commitment date back
Waking up on this Monday morning, all I could think about was how today had the potential to be the biggest day so far this offseason for Michigan State basketball.
One of the Spartans' priority targets in the transfer portal, Frankie Fidler, was planning to announce what school he was committing to around 9 a.m.
Those plans however have changed.
Fidler moving commitment date back
This past weekend, Fidler was in East Lansing on an official visit to check out the MSU basketball program. The Spartans, who are in his top four, were getting his last visit as he has already visited his other three finalists Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Creighton.
The original plan for Fidler was to announce his commitment Monday morning at 9 a.m. on a local Omaha radio station, but about 45 minutes before that announcement, a decision to delay was made.
What does this mean for Michigan State's chances?
Part of me thinks this could be a really good sign for the Spartans. Rumors were swriling that Wisconsin was the leader going into his MSU visit, but he was still coming to East Lansing to do his due dilligence. So this change in commitment date might mean that he now has a lot more interest in Michigan State than he originally had before his visit.
This is all just speculation. There is an equal chance that a new team is getting involved in his recruitment. There have also been rumors that a return to Omaha, his former school, could be a new option on the table as well.
So all this news tells us is that nobody knows anything at this time. If I had to guess, I would say that Fidler had his mind set elsewhere before his visit to Michigan State, but then Tom Izzo was able to give him a lot to think about and potentially change his mind. I am obviously biased though, so take that with a grain of salt.
A new commitment date has not been set yet, so for the time being we are all going to have to anxiously await on the edge of our seats to see if he becomes the newest Spartan.
