Michigan State basketball is back on the recruiting trail this month as, well, there's really nothing else to do other than hyper-fixate on Moneyball performances.

Tom Izzo has been working hard this summer to work on his recruiting targets in the 2025 class while preparing an early board for 2026. He has yet to land any 2025 commits, but he's still looking ahead to 2026 to make sure he doesn't miss out on some of the top targets, especially in his own backyard.

On Friday, the Hall of Fame head coach offered a scholarship to one of the top in-state prospects in the class of 2026, Jonathan Sanderson.

The four-star point guard from Saline, Mich., is ranked the No. 49 overall prospect in the 2026 class and the No. 7 point guard, per the 247Sports Composite. He's also the state of Michigan's second-best prospect behind Brother Rice's Elijah Williams who is a five-star small forward, ranked No. 10 in the country.

Sanderson also holds offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan along with the Spartans.

Michigan State has offered just three players officially in the 2026 class and two of them are now point guards. And Izzo is putting his newest assistant to work here as 247Sports says that Saddi Washington is the lead recruiter for Sanderson.

The 2026 class is still far off and Izzo needs to land some 2025 guys before he can focus fully on this cycle, but it's good to see him putting feelers out there for some of the top talent, especially an in-state kid ranked in the top 50 nationally.
