Jonathan Smith has done everything right so far in his short tenure with Michigan State football. Not only is he a perfect 2-0 after an impressive 27-24 road win over Maryland, but he appears to be building the program the right way.

By this I mean he is creating an elite culture at Michigan State which is something the program did not have over the last few years.

A video posted by On3's Jim Comparoni of Smith right after the Maryland game is the latest proof of how elite Smith's culture already is.

It's never that surprising to see a head coach celebrate a big win with former Michigan State players, however usually you only see that with players that they actually coached. This time however Smith was seen celebrating with former Spartan stars that he never even coached.

In the above video Smith is seen hugging former Michigan State center and current Baltimore Raven Nick Samac. He also acknowledges current Philadelphia Eagle Ben VanSumeren whose younger brother, Alex, is on the current team.

The brotherhood between the current Michigan State players and alumni is something that has always been special in the program. Mark Dantonio really emphasized that during his tenure and that may be the one good culture move that Mel Tucker made during his tenure as well. And Smith now is carrying on that tradition and doing it in his own way.

The fact that Smith even knows who Samac is impressive on its own, but to go out of his way to embrace him and celebrate with him is really cool to see.

A culture like this is how champions are made. Michigan State will never get back to the top of college football without an elite culture, so I'm extremely happy to see Smith making such a huge emphasis on building a culture that can be sustained for years to come.
