How each former Michigan State football QB fared in battles with new teams
3. Katin Houser, East Carolina
Former fan favorite Katin Houser is up next as he has made his move to East Carolina this offseason.
I say former fan favorite because Michigan State fans were very adamant that Houser would be “the guy” for Michigan State. But after he got a few starts after Noah Kim wasn’t working out that quickly changed as he did not live up to the hype either.
So Houser now finds himself at East Carolina and in a very heated quarterback battle with fellow transfer Jake Garcia who is a former gunslinger for Miami and Missouri, and unfortunately for Houser, Garcia was announced as the starter just last week.
It’s hard to know where Houser goes from here. For his sake as an individual it would be nice to see Garcia struggle so he can earn a chance at some playing time and maybe even some starts this season. But at the same time it’s hard to actively root against someone on your team even if it means you’d get more playing time.
Garcia still has two years of eligibility remaining, so maybe Houser will enter the transfer portal again this offseason, but whatever his decision he’s got a tough road in front of him.
