There aren't too many people outside of East Lansing who have a positive outlook on Michigan State football's upcoming season. And in all honesty, there are some MSU fans out there who aren't too confident either.

But it's hard for me to blame them as I can see why. A new head coach in Jonathan Smith and over 60 new players in the program will cause many people to question how good a team can be.

But all of that hasn't stopped many Michigan State fans as well as some unbiased media members from having high expectations for the Spartans this season.

The Big Ten Network was just in town this past weekend as part of their kickoff series before the season begins, and Big Ten analyst Yogi Roth had a lot of great things to say about Michigan State and Aidan Chiles specifically.

"I look at eight games on this schedule and say, if Aidan Chiles is the guy we think he can be, if they can run the ball, if Jack Velling can become the tight end-you guys know Joe Rossi as much as anybody. They’re gonna have a shot to make some noise."

Yogi Roth

Roth didn’t stop there as he continued to sing Chiles' praises.

"I believe they have a top 3 quarterback in this league. Aidan Chiles can just do things a lot of guys can’t. If he starts to become the confident player he can be and makes plays in critical moments, this team is going to be scary every Saturday."

Yogi Roth

Now Roth doesn't go as far as to say how good of a season he thinks Michigan State will have, but when I read between the lines I see someone who thinks Michigan State could win upwards of seven or even eight games this season. Now that would be a huge improvement from the past two seasons and would help the program build momentum for the future.

We'll have to see how things go beginning next week against Florida Atlantic, but if Chiles is as good as Roth says he is then Michigan State should have no issue proving Vegas wrong and winning more than 4.5 games this season.
