Michigan State basketball has been expanding its 2026 recruiting board lately, and one of the newest targets has been exploding this summer.

Tom Izzo offered Carlos Medlock Jr. back in mid-June, and it felt like a slight reach considering he wasn't exactly the highest-ranked prospect in the class. He was a three-star prospect and wasn't even ranked by some services yet. However, his recent performance with Phenom United this summer has people singing his praises.

In fact, Medlock even went off with Izzo in attendance, dropping 20-plus points in a tournament with some of the best recruits in the country.

Medlock's recent breakout has earned him a four-star rating on 247Sports, and he's since been offered by the likes of Michigan and Oklahoma State since receiving that MSU offer.

Medlock, a former Wayne (Mich.) Memorial star, was being recruited by the likes of Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy, and Duquesne before Michigan State came calling. He decided to transfer to a prep school in Missouri to improve his game as a senior, and now he's getting looks from some major programs. And Izzo isn't going to just sit back and let them swoop in and steal him.

It's not going to be an easy task for the Hall of Famer, however, as Medlock's recruiting ranking has shot up since this recent breakout, coming in at No. 104 nationally in the 247Sports Composite. He's also the No. 9 point guard in the 2026 class.

Getting the 2026 class started with a Medlock commitment would be massive because he's not done climbing the ranks just yet.
