While everyone continues to watch Jeremy Fears Jr. rewrite the history books when it comes to assists in Michigan State basketball history, the next man up in the historic line of Spartan point guards is finishing up his high school career.
Carlos Medlock Jr. has steadily climbed the 2026 recruiting rankings throughout his senior campaign. Most recently he has reached the top 50 in the country according to most major recruiting sites. It's been an impressive run for Medlock, to say the least, considering he began the year outside the top 80. It’s especially impressive when you consider Medlock spent his first three years of high school at Wayne High in Michigan before seeking better competition at Link Academy in Missouri.
It‘s at Link where Medlock has thrived alongside other big name prospects including the younger brother of UConn center Tarris Reed, along with another incoming Spartan in 7-foot-2 center Ethan Taylor.

Medlock has helped Link Academy to a 25-3 record this season and will be playing against the best high school teams in the country in April, fighting to become the best team in the country.
While he juggles that, Medlock has also had his eye on getting to East Lansing.
Carlos Medlock has his eye on the future
Medlock spoke with Luke Joseph from Michigan State Spartans on SI, about his future in the green and white and about his connection with Taylor.
"I feel like being with (Taylor) and getting to know him more as a person is going to build a great connection for us at MSU," Medlock said. "We do not have to find that connection later because we are already building it now on the court. When we get to State, it is going be good."
The four-star point guard also very excited about the 2026 class as a whole, citing the fact that he, Taylor, Jasiah Jervis, and Julius Avent can all shoot the ball.
As for the aforementioned Fears, Medlock knows what he can bring to the table to be the second floor general alongside Jeremy.
"I could be that guy for him, another leader so he does not have to be the only one being that vocal leader," Medlock said. "I also bring being a defensive pest and a scoring threat that can impact both ends of the floor. I just do whatever it takes to win, so I will do anything on the floor."
There should be no shortage of point guard depth in East Lansing next season.
