Pat Fitzgerald’s first two official visit weekends as Michigan State’s head coach have gone pretty well, yielded a handful of commitments, but canceled visits with top targets committing elsewhere have put a damper on things.
Guys like Nehemiah Ombati, Marvin Nguetsop, Ronnie Gomiller, and Caleb Green all canceled visits to either visit elsewhere or commit elsewhere. It’s been pretty disappointing to see a really impressive official visit schedule kind of crumble like that.
Not to mention the priority targets who made it to campus but have since committed elsewhere like Reinaldo Perez (Indiana) and Gideon Gash (Texas Tech). There have been some disappointments for sure already in this official visit season, but there has also been plenty of good news.
The Spartans have landed some priority targets like Lawrence Kanneh, but now they have to really evaluate the final pieces to a class that’s filling up rather quickly.
Michigan State has 13 commits in the class and Fitzgerald teased another one with a “Pat Signal” on Twitter on Friday so I’m assuming that means 14 in the 2027 class and not another surprise in the 2026 class — but you never really know. Fitzgerald has been doing a lot of work in silence and maybe that’s not the worst thing because some fans overreact to just about every addition or loss.
The Spartans are now on official visit weekend No. 3 and it’s a little quieter than originally anticipated with Gomiller canceling his visit and Dominic Black committing to Kentucky earlier this week. Michigan State fans are in desperate need of good news.
Will that come during a quiet recruiting weekend?
Who’s visiting Michigan State this weekend?
Unlike the first two weekends, this weekend is apparently going to be incredibly quiet as 247Sports is reporting just two visits and one is a Michigan State commit.
- Grant Adloff, 3-star IOL (Michigan State commit)
- RJ Clem, Unranked OT
Another weekend that’s heavy on the trenches. Although there are only two guys on campus, at least that we know of, it’s good to see that they’re at least playing one of the most important positions that has been the downfall of Michigan State football over the past few years.
Fitzgerald will look to win over Clem who is currently unranked from Logansport, Ind., and who’s supposed to visit Wake Forest next weekend. He’s also received interest from Iowa State, Kansas, and UCF, among about a dozen other offers. It helps that he has a fellow offensive lineman on the visit to try to convince him to join the class.
This could be a 100 percent commitment weekend.
