Summer official visits kick off on Thursday for Michigan State football as Pat Fitzgerald and the Spartans look to add to their seven-man class that’s ranked somewhere in the 40s.
Fortunately, the first weekend of official visits is going to feature several top recruits from the 2027 class. The Jonathan Smith era got us way too comfortable with three-star and unranked visitors but Fitzgerald is spoiling Michigan State fans with the first May 29 weekend of official visits.
There are going to be some big names on campus this weekend, so let’s look at who they are.
Note: Official visits reported by 247Sports as of May 27.
Uncommitted official visitors
These are the guys that will stand out as priorities for Fitzgerald over the weekend, and that’s not saying that his Michigan State commits who are also visiting aren’t important. He can use his own commits to help recruit these uncommitted official visitors.
There are some big names on this list.
- Caleb Johnson, 4-star OT (Noblesville, Ind.)
- Reinaldo Perez, 4-star DL (Columbus, Ohio)
- Nehemiah Ombati, 4-star DL (Shakopee, Minn.)
- Anthony Cartwright, 4-star TE (Franklin, Mich.)
- Marcellus Young Casario, 3-star DL (Rabun Gap, Ga.)
- Isaiah Alvarez, 3-star WR (Ramsey, NJ)
- Don Spillers, 3-star WR (Detroit, Mich.)
- Henry Sakalas, 3-star LB (La Grange Park, Ill.)
- Kayden Battle, 3-star CB (Purdue Springs, Ga.)
- Matthew Brady, 3-star LB (Bloomington, Ind.)
Do you notice a trend? Most of these visitors who have yet to pick a school are from the Midwest. In fact, seven of the 10 uncommitted visitors for the upcoming weekend are from the Midwest.
I like Fitzzgerald’s focus on the Midwest. It’s very Mark Dantonio-like.
Now, onto the committed visitors.
Committed visitors (all committed to MSU)
Michigan State will have three commits on campus this weekend, too, which is going to help Fitzgerald recruit the names above. Having these three in their ear all weekend will help big time.
- Jack Carlson, 3-star OT (Brighton, Mich.)
- Savior Owens, 3-star RB (Massillon, Ohio)
- Ty’ire Clark, 3-star S (Jersey City, NJ)
Again, two of the three commits are from the Midwest. Notice a theme?
The list of official visitors is a good one and I fully expect the Spartans to land a commitment or two to kick off Fitzgerald’s first summer official visit stretch with Michigan State.
As of May 27, there are going to be 13 class of 2027 targets on campus this weekend and a third of them are four-stars. You would have never seen that in the Smith era.
