What a busy week it’s been for Pat Fitzgerald and Michigan State football recruiting.
The Spartans have been scheduling visits left and right, they’ve visited some priority targets, they’ve made top schools lists, and they’ve even landed two defensive line commits in the past week.
Michigan State picked up commitments from four-star defensive lineman Ohimai Ozolua and three-star defensive end Jack Schuler since the end of spring ball, and there should be more on the way now that official visit season is upon us.
One top target just scheduled his official visit with Michigan State, and it’s a big one.
According to Allen Trieu, four-star tight end Anthony Cartwright is set to visit Michigan State and 247Sports shared the official date which is May 29.
Michigan State will be getting the first visit for Cartwright who happens to be a four-star legacy recruit from the state of Michigan he also released a list of his top five schools on Thursday. Michigan State, LSU, Miami, Oregon, and Michigan are his finalists as of this week and he has trips planned to three of them so far — Miami (June 5) and Oregon (June 19).
This is a huge official visit because not only is it the first one which gives Michigan State a major leg up on the competition, but it’s also right after he put the Spartans on his list of finalists.
A commit on the visit would be huge. Not expected in the least, but huge.
Michigan State’s official visit schedule is filling up
Official visit season basically just means that college football recruiting is going to be chaos for the next couple of months. The summer is full of camps and official visits so there’s a ton of movement in the senior class every year.
Michigan State should see some of that movement soon — well, the Spartans kind of already have.
The schedule of official visits is filling up and with Cartwright added to May 29 weekend, Fitzgerald is set to host a whopping 15 recruits that weekend, and I like the strategy of having a couple of commits come to town to help recruit future teammates. Ozolua, Jack Carlson, and Ty’ire Clark will all be there that first weekend and it’s perfect because it’s going to be a star-studded event.
Michigan State will have several four-stars on campus that weekend, including in-state prospects like Myles Smith and Cartwright. I like Fitzgerald’s chances to close on some big-time targets during his first official visit weekend of the summer.
