Michigan State football has been in the spotlight for the past few weeks, and deservedly so.

Heck, the Spartan football program has been in the spotlight all summer, beginning with a heck of an official visit season in June, landing over a dozen prospects to boost the 2026 class into the top-30 nationally. Michigan State even got as high as No. 25 before slipping a little in recent weeks to No. 32 on 247Sports.

Still, the program seems to be trending in the right direction, and it all starts with recruiting.

The team just wrapped up fall camp, too, and the coaching staff seems to like what they have on the roster heading into the 2025 season. Jonathan Smith and Co. have been speaking highly of the guys and the hype is about to come to a head next week as the Spartans host Western Michigan.

Speaking of that Western Michigan opener, Michigan State will be hosting a top in-state recruit in the 2027 class for the big game, according to Allen Trieu.

Tre Britton from Belleville, Mich., is the No. 73 receiver in the 2027 class and the state of Michigan's 10th-best prospect. He'll be on campus for the game day visit before going to Oklahoma the following weekend and Michigan on Oct. 4.

This is a chance for Smith and Michigan State to jump out to an early lead for one of the top prospects from the state. Winning a recruiting battle against the Wolverines is always a plus.

While Britton isn't the highest-rated recruit from the state, he has one of the best offer lists of anyone. He's been offered by Alabama, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, UCLA, Utah, and Wisconsin, among others. He holds 27 offers, per 247Sports.

Courtney Hawkins needs to work his magic.
