Michigan State football on verge of losing RB commit to Alabama
Just a day after flipping three-star running back Zion Gist from Western Michigan and being named the favorites to flip three-star West Virginia athlete commit Terrance Edwards, Michigan State football is reportedly in major danger of losing three-star running back Jace Clarizio to Alabama.
Kalen DeBoer is trying to stick it to the Spartans just one more time and it looks like he's going to succeed as the crystal balls for Clarizio to flip to Alabama have been coming in.
Despite being committed to Michigan State since May and visiting this past weekend while also being from the school's literal backyard in East Lansing, it looks like Clarizio's offer from Alabama on Nov. 7 was enough to sway him to pick the Crimson Tide.
On Tuesday, Justin Thind, a Michigan State recruiting insider, logged a crystal ball with a confidence of 10 (a lock) for Clarizio to flip to Alabama.
Even without Nick Saban, Alabama gets essentially whatever it wants on the recruiting trail. That school is a machine and the donors and NIL don't make it any easy for the opposition. Alabama currently has the No. 3 recruiting class for 2025 and it's not even like they need a running back as the Tide have the No. 60 overall prospect and No. 2 rusher in the entire class committed.
Clarizio will be competing for playing time against the nation's No. 2 running back prospect along with a loaded room and likely an addition from the transfer portal just because.
This is a tough blow for Jonathan Smith and Co. and while the Spartans' 2025 class is ranked in the 50s, he deserves a year to prove himself. If next year's class is ranked in the same range, discussions need to be had about the future of the program.
