Michigan State football offers fast-rising 2028 in-state QB

The first quarterback commit of the Pat Fitzgerald era of Michigan State football was participating in the Spartans’ camp this week, but he was also competing against other top quarterback targets.

The coaching staff wanted to keep an eye on their guy in the 2027 class while also looking ahead to the future. The quarterback position is the most important in every class and it’s always good to land the captain of the cycle early on so he can help recruit future teammates.

Kayd Coffman likely helped the 2026 class land some of Jonathan Smith’s top targets at the time and Fitzgerald being able to retain him was a huge win for the staff.

With Alessio Milivojevic entering his redshirt sophomore season, the future at the quarterback position looks pretty solid but Fitzgerald is focusing on the 2028 class already.

On Tuesday, he offered one of the fastest-rising recruits in the state.

Unranked quarterback Brayden Tillman from Traverse City, Mich., picked up an offer from Michigan State on Tuesday after his camp performance and he said that the offer “means everything” to him.

Tillman might be unranked right now, but it’s only a matter of time before the 6-foot-5 dual-threat soars up the rankings. He’s been noticed by some big-time programs lately, receiving offers from Wisconsin and Florida State over the past week. He also picked up Purdue and Miami(OH) offers during that timeframe.

The talented quarterback is gaining some national recognition and Michigan State got in early enough to really make a push to land him.

I’m not sure where he’ll be slotted when he finally does receive his first ranking, but I’m going to guess that he’ll be in the 400-600 range nationally.

Michigan State’s QB room has a chance to be special again

It’s been a while since Michigan State truly had a special quarterback room. I don’t remember the last time that I felt good about the quarterback depth in East Lansing.

Even when Payton Thorne, Noah Kim, and Katin Houser were all in the quarterback room together, it felt like something was missing. The Spartans just haven’t had consistent quarterback play in a while but Milivojevic has a chance to deliver that. He showed that he could be consistent near the end of the 2025 season which seemingly won over the new coaching staff.

Behind Milivojevic is FAU standard Cam Fancher, four-star incoming freshman Kayd Coffman, and promising redshirt freshman Leo Hannan. There’s plenty of talent in the room, but next year’s group is going to be even better with Stumpf in the mix, replacing Fancher.

If all goes to plan, Milivojevic leaves for the NFL after his junior season and passes the reins off to Coffman, Hannan, or Stumpf while a guy like Tillman comes in with the 2028 class.

The talent level in the quarterback room is finally on the rise again.
