Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith has been recruiting at an impressive level all summer long, going from having a class ranked in the 70s heading into June all the way up to No. 25 by the start of July.
The 2026 class is coming together nicely, and the Spartans have a solid official visit month to thank for that. Michigan State landed over a dozen commitments and landed some blue-chippers like Collin Campbell, Samson Gash, and Tyren Wortham. Many were unsure if Smith could hang with the bigger programs in heated recruiting battles, and he's beaten out schools like Alabama and Georgia.
Now, Smith is starting to turn more of his attention to the 2027 recruiting class.
On Sunday, the Spartans offered one of the best recruits in the 2027 class in four-star, top-120 defensive back Allen Evans from Kentucky.
After a great conversation with @DBcoachadams I am blessed to receive an offer from the University of Michigan State @MSU_Football @TrinityHSFB @Coach_MFox @Aspirationsgym @AllenTrieu @RivalsFriedman @SWiltfong_ @On3Recruits @RivalsWoody @ChadSimmons_ pic.twitter.com/JoiPuUHT2G

We're starting to see more offers go out in the 2027 class from Smith, and this one is big. Evans only holds 14 offers, but there are some big names in the hunt like Alabama, Arkansas, Louisville, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. The Spartans are getting in on him early, and although there are some traditional powerhouses in the hunt, Smith has shown he can win these types of high-profile battles.
Michigan State is ranked as the No. 109 overall recruit and the 13th-best cornerback in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports. He's in the top 130 in the composite rankings.
The Louisville, Ky., native is going to have a draw to stay close to home, especially if Jeff Brohm and the Cardinals continue to improve, but the Spartans are in on him early enough.
